Now virus closes SM Sains

Kota Kinabalu: SM Sains Kota Kinabalu in Bukit Padang here became the second school to be closed in Sabah due to the influenza A (H1N1) virus on Friday.
Deputy Health Minister, Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said they suggested the closure after 17 students developed symptoms of the flu and were admitted to hospital.
However, she did not specify the number of students found positive for the virus, but only that they moved to have the school closed for a week "as the number of students affected were high."
She said health authorities are still investigating.
Meanwhile, two SM La Salle Tanjung Aru students also tested positive for the flu strain on Thursday.
But Rosnah said there were no measures taken to close the school yet. She also did not specify the number of suspected H1N1 cases from the school.
The full-board school of SM Sains in Lahad Datu was the first to close in Sabah due to the pandemic on Thursday, after two students from the school tested positive to the virus.
A total of 12 students from the school were admitted to hospital, with 120 students quarantined while the rest have been placed in isolation in the hostel.
